New scrumping, orchard and local food premises at Stanmer?

Last week it was confirmed that 'The Tractor Shed' at Stanmer Park will be marketed for rent by Brighton and Hove City Council, and we are pleased to announce that we will be making a bid for it.

If we are successful, we want to make a £40,000 investment in a kitchen and juice bottling equipment which will allow us to expand our processing of fruit from the scrumping project, enabling us to make much more juice, chutneys, etc.

The premises would allow members of the public to see the products being made and buy them. It would also allow for the processing and sale of other local produce such as herbs and vegetables from Stanmer Organics, as well as providing new facilities for us to teach people about fruit processing and orchard skills and engage volunteers.

Our vision of how the Tractor Shed might look can be seen in the artist's impression below:

So, where will the £40,000 come from?

We will be applying for European Leader funding to cover about half the costs, but match funding will be required. Last week, we made a pitch for Social investment at a Dragon's Den style event, and we are pleased to announce that offers of loans have been received.
