The best way to learn about permaculture is through whichever learning style suits you best. Not everybody learns in the same way, and luckily there are permaculture resources out there for everyone. Below are some suggestions.

Reading

For an inexpensive start to learning about permaculture, begin online. If you want more of the theory behind permaculture, then go to the Permaculture Association. Check out the Permaculture Magazine for a broad range of articles and examples of permaculture in practice.

Once you understand more about what permaculture is, the theory behind it, how it can be applied, and the areas of applied permaculture you find most interesting, you can look to invest in books on your preferred topics. Green Shopping has a wide range of permaculture books.

Seeing real-world examples

If you're based in/near Brighton, come and check out our plot and orchards in Stanmer Park (contact us for details), or visit a community orchard such as the one in Racehill. (For a list of local community orchards we've helped plant, click here).

Elsewhere, find the nearest demo sites.

Listening/watching

Sustainable World Radio has some great audio interviews.  If videos are more your thing, than check out Permaculture Research Institute's Permaculture TV.

Hands-on

There are a number of introductory permaculture design courses that provide you the opportunity to get hands-on with the support of an experienced permaculture designer and the encouragement of like-minded people. Why not check out our Introduction to permaculture course? The course is really interactive, and you'll be able to visit case studies like Earthship Brighton and a food growing example.

When it comes to permaculture, there is a whole world out there, no matter what medium you prefer to learn through - social media, books, podcasts, getting your hands dirty, or simply having a conversation with like-minded people.

If there is a permaculture resource you've found particularly valuable, please contact us and suggest we add it here.
