Become a trustee

Are you passionate about helping people and nature to thrive in Sussex? Join our board of trustees and help guide Brighton Permaculture Trust’s work at a strategic level – supporting real change in our local environment and community.

Help shape the future of Brighton Permaculture Trust

Would you like to become a trustee of Brighton Permaculture Trust?

Trustees play a vital role in keeping Brighton Permaculture Trust accountable, resilient, and true to our values. As a registered charity since 2013, we rely on a dedicated board of trustees to help steer our direction, uphold our mission, and support our growth.

We are looking to attract more voices to our small governing body.  A wide and diverse set of skills and experiences is vital for developing the Trust. You can contribute in many ways – from bringing specific skills and experience, such as finance or HR, to bringing a different perspective and fresh thinking to our work.

We are especially looking for trustees with knowledge of finance, accounting, or fundraising, though all applications are welcome.

What trustees do

Our trustees form the governing body of the charity.

You’ll help:

  • Shape strategic decisions and long-term vision
  • Ensure we meet our legal and financial responsibilities
  • Support and oversee our management team
  • Champion sustainability and permaculture in everything we do

What you’ll get from the role

  • Being part of a vibrant, growing community of passionate changemakers working towards a greener, fairer world
  • Make a meaningful impact in your community
  • Grow your own skills in governance, strategy, and resilient design

What we ask from you

We’re looking for people who:

  • Are committed to our values and aims as a charity
  • Are based locally and able to commit to the role for at least two years
  • Can attend bi-monthly trustee meetings (typically on Monday afternoons via Zoom)

Trustees must also be eligible under charity law (e.g. not disqualified or an undischarged bankrupt).

Become an advisor

We are looking to create a team of advisors to support our work at Brighton Permaculture Trust. If being a trustee feels too demanding due to time or legal concerns, you can still contribute as an advisor. This role allows you to share your knowledge in your field or offer a fresh perspective on important decisions.
