(previously Green Architecture Day)
Cutting-edge talks on green architecture brought to you by Brighton Permaculture Trust and Low Carbon Trust
September 21 – October 3 2020
The Green Architecture Day team are excited to announce a new format for 2020, the Green Architecture Sessions.
Our homes and living environments have come into sharp focus during the pandemic and with the escalating climate crisis we know it’s more important than ever that we worked to bring together the industry’s leading professionals to talk about holistic circular design and solutions to create a built environment that works for both people and planet.
Kicking off on the 21st September the two-week event will host a series of online lunchtime talks, Q&A’s, panel discussion and breakout sessions where you will be able to get your questions answered by the architecture and construction industry’s leading professionals.
The line-up this year is packed full of fantastic designers and community innovators. Read on to find out how you can join and learn from the leaders who are building a greener future, right here in the UK.
What is Green Architecture Sessions 2020?
Green Architecture Sessions 2020 is the new name for our annual event, Green Architecture Day. Each year we host a conference full of inspiring talks about how we can build, work and live in greener, healthier buildings and communities, and 2020 is all about ACTION.
This year, our impressive lineup will be focusing their talks on the actions they are taking to address the climate and biodiversity crisis.
You’ll hear about the latest cutting-edge solutions – from regenerative living materials, circular construction systems to community-led bio-manufacturing and equitable business models, to diverse and carbon neutral green roof adaptation and how we can transform the property industry to operate within planetary boundaries while facilitating prosperity.
Each year people come together to learn from the dynamic change makers who are creating the present and future of practical, innovative and holistic design. Green Architecture Sessions welcomes participants who are architects, engineers, construction professionals and design students, to permaculture designers and interested individuals. The event is always a melting pot of creativity and innovation. Read more about who Green Architecture Sessions are for.

Breakout Sessions
Saturday 3rd October
We will have two tours in Brighton on the 3 October. There will be a limited number of places to join these tours in-person (booking essential) and they will both be live-streamed. Details of how to book the in-person tour and the live stream links will be sent to Green Architecture Sessions participants via email.
Walking tour of Madeira Drive Green Wall 11am – 11:45am
A walking tour of the oldest living wall in the UK with James Farrell of building-green.org.uk.
We will identify some of the impressive array of species this Victorian wall is sustaining. This is a magnificent example of biodiversity built to last that has been evolving for hundreds of years on our seafront.
Brighton Waste House tour 11am – 11:45am
There will be a tour of the award winning Waste House with queen of waste reduction Cat Fletcher.
The Brighton Waste House is the first permanent ‘carbon negative’ public building in Europe to be constructed from approximately 90% waste, including surplus material and discarded plastic gathered from the construction industries and our own homes. Despite such unusual material sources, the Waste House has Full Planning & Building Regulations Approvals.
Repair Café Online 11am- 12pm
Repair cafés are social events where a team of volunteer repairers teach participants to fix their broken things. For Green Architecture Sessions this year the Brighton Repair Café team will be available online to give advice about fixing your broken objects.
The team will be able to help diagnose the problem with your item, whether it can be repaired, how to go about it and advise where to get parts or help. This could be anything from clothing and textiles to electrical goods, furniture or computer, tablet or mobile phone software issues. We will be limited to one item per person – so make it count!
Register direct with Repair Cafe: To register email [email protected] and let the team know which your cherished item you would like to fix & the issue with it. They will then invite you to sign up and send details about how the event works and their zoom call details.
Panel Discussion – What action is needed now?
Saturday 3rd October 3pm – 4.15pm Hosted by Oliver Heath
Speakers and event participants join the call to action and Q&A.
