Thursday 8th August at Hove Community Field, 7 Dials, 1.30 - 4.30pm
Join local supporters to help maintain the 10 fruit and nut trees in the new orchard that we planted over Winter in this popular community park. The orchard is part of a project run by the ‘friends of’ group that planted hedgerows on the site to provide new habitat and to bring wildlife into the heart of the city and has also been supported by BHCC who planted some canopy trees too over winter.
We will be doing some general orchard care, tasks for the sessions may include: clearing weeds from around tree bases to help them thrive; mulching with woodchip to lock in moisture and keep competitive vegetation at bay; checking tree health & looking out for pests and diseases; emergency pruning of diseased, damaged, or dead branches; checking supports, protection and ties to help trees grow straight & strong; litter picking.
