Thursday 31st October - Woollards Field Orchard, Moulsecoomb 10.30am - 12.30pm.
Woollards Field orchard boasts 11 apple trees each of a different Sussex heritage variety. The site sits next to the children’s playground and patch of land known locally as Maggie’s Corner; adjacent also is a small copse of native woodland trees planted as part of The Keep development. The area is much loved by the local community which plans to continue to improve the site to be as inclusive a space as possible.
Tasks for the sessions include: clearing weeds from around tree bases to help them thrive; mulching with woodchip to lock in moisture and keep competitive vegetation at bay; checking tree health & looking out for pests and diseases; emergency pruning of diseased, damaged, or dead branches; checking supports, protection and ties to help trees grow straight & strong; litter picking.
