Saturday 12th October - Home Farm orchard, Stanmer 10am - 3pm
Come and help out at our beautiful Home Farm orchard in Stanmer Park which has a collection of old and new trees and holds a number of trees from the National Heritage Apple Collection which we manage. We will be picking apples - some of ladders and also windfalls which we use for cider making. We may also be doing some orchard management - experienced scythers would be most welcome (we don't have resources for beginners, sorry). We'll also be mulching round the trees.
Please register for this session. Kids welcome!
Please read for your safety - please be aware that our Home Farm Orchard is a wild and wonderful place with many wild and wonderful plants and creatures. Wasps are present, please do not attend if you have an allergy. Nettles, ankle shredding brambles, rabbit holes and all the usual country hazards need attention too.
Your host
When you register you will receive an email which will give you his contact phone number in case you need to call him on the day.
Practical stuff
- Food and drink to sustain you for the session (snacks, flasks, water etc).
- Gardening gloves are essential
- Sturdy footwear (no sandals) -
Clothing suitable for nettles, brambles, sun and rain. (Long trousers and sleeves are recommended unless you don’t care about stings and scratches; hardy types that chose to wear shorts should at least wear ankle length socks.)
Water bottles will be able to be refilled on site if necessary. Dress appropriately for weather conditions and messy work. There are toilets adjacent to the Fruit Factory and also toilets at One Garden nearby (please do not urinate in the orchards). There is a cafe if you want to buy food/drinks.
Please note that for all the activities all children under the age of 18 and people with support needs must be accompanied by a parent/carer who is responsible for their supervision, safety and any medication needed.
