Saturday 23rd November Juicing at Stanmer 11am - 4pm
Join Robbi and help juice fruit we've either picked or collected around Brighton/Sussex. This fruit would have gone to waste but with your help it will be turned into delicious juices and ciders. Learn hands on about small scale juice and cider production, some of which we'll sell on the day to the passing public. No experience is necessary, and new volunteers very welcome. Our juicing sessions are fun, messy and fast paced, as we need to make sure the fruit is pressed before it spoils. Please note this is a very physical activity, with some heavy lifting (around 15kg) of crates and stretching, as top of equipment is 1.6m.
Our scrump manager Nick will be providing some soup for volunteers at this session - something veggie/beany ; )
IMPORTANT: Please do not register to take part if you are ill or have had any sickness or diarrhoea in the previous 14 days.
Wasp season in the UK generally starts around April and finishes around mid October. We therefore advise that anyone with an allergy to wasp stings does not help out during this period.
Unfortunately, due to the fast pace of these sessions and the size and nature of some of the equipment involved, this session is not suitable for under 16’s. We're keen to buy more suitable equipment to run family-friendly juicing sessions - so please contact us with any funding opportunities you think we could apply for.
Please register for this task, so we know who is coming and only register if you are sure you can come.

When you register you will receive an email which will give you his contact phone number in case you need to call him on the day.
Practical stuff
Please bring whatever food and drink you need to sustain you for the day (please note there is a cafe opposite the Fruit Factory). Soup will be provided at this session. There are also tea/coffee making facilities in the Fruit Factory. Please dress for outdoor/rough work, tough shoes, suitable clothes etc. Please bring work gloves if you have any, and also a pair of marigolds if you have some. Hands tend to get cold washing apples, so having a pair of rubber gloves with something underneath if possible will really help.
We are working outdoors so dress as weather conditions dictate.
There are toilets adjacent to the Fruit Factory and also toilets at One Garden nearby. Please do not urinate in the Stanmer orchards.
Please note that for all the activities all children under the age of 18 and people with support needs must be accompanied by a parent/carer who is responsible for their supervision, safety and any medication needed.
Directions
We will meet at the Fruit Factory which is in Stanmer village almost opposite the cafe. See 2nd map down via this link:
The car parks at Stanmer are pay by phone only and mobile coverage in the park is not good. We recommend downloading the PaybyPhone app in advance.
If you don't have a smartphone you will need to set up a PaybyPhone account in advance.
