Wednesday 27th November Bevendean Recreation Ground 10am - 4pm (or 2 sessions detailed below).
We’ve helped plant a community orchard at Bevendean Recreation Ground with 30 fruit & nut trees and 10 disease resistant elms and we need to look after them while they get established. Community orchards are a vital part of the puzzle for future-proofing our cities. We’re going to need them to help provide shade in the summer to lower temperatures, draw up excess rainwater to prevent flooding and even provide us with local, zero miles healthy food. Not to mention providing a beautiful space to spend time in. Now we’ve got our work cut out for us to get them all watered and looked after. Come along and learn how to care for the trees.
Tasks for the sessions may include: clearing weeds from around tree bases to help them thrive; mulching with woodchip to lock in moisture and keep competitive vegetation at bay; checking tree health & looking out for pests and diseases; winter pruning.
If you are unable to attend for the full day there are 2 sessions from 10am - 12.30 and 1.30 - 4pm. Please indicate which sessions you can attend when signing up.

Practical stuff
Please bring:
• Food and drink to sustain you for the session (packed lunch, snacks, flasks, water etc).
• Dress for the weather (warm layers & woolly hat / waterproofs if needed)
• Sturdy footwear
• Gardening gloves/clothing suitable for outdoor work
Come prepared for physical work and bring sturdy gloves, footwear and work gear to protect against weeds that sting, scratch and have nasty sap.
Please note *no public toilets on this site*.
Please note that for all the activities all children under the age of 18 and people with support needs must be accompanied by a parent/carer who is responsible for their supervision, safety and any medication needed.
