Saturday 21st December at Peacehaven Centenary Park 10am - 1pm.
During today's session we will be interplanting trees and shrubs between the traditional apple trees.
Brighton Permaculture Trust has worked with the local community in the last few years to plant an orchard, as well as shelterbelts to help protect the fruit trees in this very exposed site.
This volunteer session will be focused on interplanting a diverse range of shrubs and seedling trees, among the more traditional orchard trees. This will promote further biodiversity and provide edible crops for local residents. There are also gaps in the shelterbelt which will be replanted with whips.
Tasks for the sessions include digging planting holes, planting seedling trees/ whips and shrubs, laying a mulch of biodegradable wool and woodchip, and putting in place tree and shrub protection. There will also be more general orchard management tasks to be undertaken alongside.
