Wednesday 5th March, Avenue Orchard, Bevendean 10.30am - 3.00pm (or 2 sessions detailed below)
Nestled in the furthest corner of The Avenue, this Bevendean orchard boasts over 50 fruit trees. Local residents planted 13 fruit trees in 2019, followed by a further 14 Sussex apple trees and an impressive ring of 6 walnuts in 2021, with latest plantings in 2022 of 23 trees. Despite setbacks of vandalism, this growing orchard is adding essential biodiversity to an otherwise sea of green mown grass.
In the morning session we will be replacing one of the trees and in the afternoon general orchard care - clearing weeds from around tree bases to help them thrive; checking tree health & looking out for pests and diseases; mulching; checking supports, protection and ties to help trees grow straight & strong.
If you are unable to attend for the full day there are 2 sessions from 10.30am - 12.30 and 1 - 3pm. Please indicate which sessions you can attend when signing up.
