Wednesday 11th June at The Avenue Orchard, Bevendean 10.30am - 3pm
Nestled in the furthest corner of The Avenue, this Bevendean orchard boasts over 50 fruit trees. Local residents planted 13 fruit trees in 2019, followed by a further 14 Sussex apple trees and an impressive ring of 6 walnuts in 2021, with latest plantings in 2022 of 23 trees. Despite setbacks of vandalism, this growing orchard is adding essential biodiversity to an otherwise sea of green mown grass.
We will be doing some weeding around the trees bases followed by some mulching. This helps keep future weeds at bay, locks in moisture and over time breals down and helps nourish the trees.
We will also be doing some tree identification with the help of our new alitags.
If you can't make the full session feel free to turn up at any time. If you can't see Jan please give him a call.
