Thursday 22nd February Tree planting - East Brighton Park 10am - 4.30pm (or 2 sessions detailed below).
Be part of something BIG! We’ve been asked to plant a community orchard, and with 15 fruit & nut trees to plant we’ve got our work cut out for us! Community orchards are are vital part of the puzzle for future-proofing our cities. We’re going to need them to help provide shade in the summer to lower temperatures, draw up excess rainwater to prevent flooding and even provide us with local, zero miles healthy food. Not to mention providing a beautiful space to spend time in.
We’re joining forces with CPRE Sussex and working in partnership with BHCC Tree Planting Team using funds from our recent successful Aviva Wild Isles Funding campaign. The council will be adding canopy trees nearby in the park to compliment this project and bring further benefits to the amazing space. Come and be part of a planting session to remember: You’ve not planted a tree until you’ve done it the Permaculture way!
Tasks for the sessions include: prepping for planting trees: digging holes, putting in posts, providing supports & protection. The session will be led by experts to ensure trees are planted in a way that they are most likely to thrive.
The work is very physical and may include digging holes with spades and using post drivers. A mechanised auger may be used by the leaders and this can be noisy.
If you are unable to attend for the full day there are 2 sessions from 10am - 12.30 and 1.30 - 4.30pm. Please indicate which sessions you can attend when signing up.
