Name:
Polly Charlton
Position:
Course convenor and tutor on Intro to Permaculture.
About Polly:
Polly completed her Permaculture Design Course in 2018 and is currently on her Applied Permaculture Diploma Pathway with five designs signed off and implemented.
Her passion is for urban greening and finding positive solutions to problems that arise in life, which is what led her to Permaculture.
Name your permaculture hero? Why them?
Maddy Harland for bringing us Permaculture Magazine which keeps me hopeful and grounded about the power of positive solutions.
Morag Gamble (Permaculture Education Institute) for making exciting films and discussions easily accessible, and for her work in refugee camps.
What is your favourite Permaculture principle?:
Patterns to details – it helps me keep focused on the big picture and systems at play as well as cycles of behaviour in myself and also larger natural systems.
Best example of Permaculture in action?
My local community garden which was my first diploma design and a huge learning curve in terms of people and land systems. We turned what had become a car park and dog toilet into a beautiful, thriving community space that welcomes local wildlife. Earth Care – we nurtured the land through no-dig small, slow solutions; People Care – it brought us together as a community and made us feel good about where we live; Fair Shares – all are welcome, we share the produce with humans and animals while doing all we can to increase biodiversity in all forms of life.
