Friday 10th May Happy Valley, Woodingdean 10am - 1pm.
Be part of something BIG! We planted a community orchard earlier in the year and now we need to look after the 15 fruit & nut trees to make sure they thrive.
Community orchards are are vital part of the puzzle for future-proofing our cities. We’re going to need them to help provide shade in the summer to lower temperatures, draw up excess rainwater to prevent flooding and even provide us with local, zero miles healthy food. Not to mention providing a beautiful space to spend time in.
We’re joining forces with CPRE Sussex and working in partnership with BHCC Tree Planting Team using funds from our recent successful Aviva Wild Isles Funding campaign. The council will be adding canopy trees nearby in the park to compliment this project and bring further benefits to the amazing space.
Join us for a FREE training session led by experts to learn all you need to know about caring for fruit trees. Tasks for the sessions include: clearing weeds from around tree bases to help them thrive; mulching with woodchip to lock in moisture and keep competitive vegetation at bay; checking tree health & looking out for pests and diseases; emergency pruning of diseased, damaged, or dead branches; checking supports, protection and ties to help trees grow straight & strong; litter picking
