We are delighted to announce that for the 5th year Infinity Foods will provide funding for us to support the creation of a further 2 or 3 school or community small orchards this winter. Brighton Permaculture Trust will shortly be deciding which schools and communities we will be supporting. The package of support includes trees (typically 8), guided planting days, aftercare visits and training for orchard leaders. If your school or community would like to plant a small orchard and would like help please do get in touch. We ask each location to make a £200- to £400 contribution towards the cost of planting the orchard.
Thanks to a grant from The Rampion Fund at Sussex Community Foundation we will be carrying out further work at 6 locations where we have planted orchards in Brighton. The work will mostly be carried out over the next 2 winters and will include the planting of an additional 30 fruit trees. Sites include Hollingdean estate and Craven Vale where we have worked with the local community to plant hundreds of fruit trees which now need some extra TLC to help them establish.
Our work supporting Peacehaven Community Orchard will continue this winter. We are planting a handful of trees each winter until we have planted a 100-tree apple orchard.
Sign-up to volunteer if you would like to help with tree planting and orchard care at these community locations.: https://brightonpermaculture.org.uk/volunteer
