Exciting news – we’ve brewed some cider and will be selling it at Stanmer this weekend!
We’ll be in Stanmer Village from 11am to 5pm on Saturday 28th, Sunday 29th, and Bank Holiday Monday 30th May 2016.
When we started the -:- scrumping project, we wanted to use fruit that would normally go to waste and provide a use for fruit from old and new orchards.
Most of the fruit we pick from trees now goes to make our fresh and pasteurised juices, but we came to realise there was a lot of fallen fruit that didn’t make the grade.
What to do?
Fallen fruit makes good cider. Last year, for the first time, we set about making cider in larger quantities, and now the first batch is ready.
We have worked to balance the flavours and create our own distinct well-rounded scrumpy cider, but there’s a sting in the tale…
This batch of cider is infused with nettles from our plot! But it still tastes good (we think).
We are obsessed with -:- orchards. They’re a fantastic way to grow sustainable food, great places to bring people together, and valuable habitat for wildlife.
Providing the inspiration, advice and services to support -:- community orchard growing is a big part of our work.
This weekend will probably be the only opportunity to buy our cider before Apple Day and our juices at Stanmer before autumn.
Come along, buy some goodies, have a chat with our team, and find out more about our fruity work.
Our Home Farm Orchard is also open and looking beautiful. The last of the blossom is fading, but the under the orchard is a sea of white cow parsley. Blue tits are feeding their young in our nestbox with caterpillars from some of the trees.
