Ways to learn more
When it comes to permaculture, there’s a whole world of ways to learn — whether through books, podcasts, courses, getting your hands dirty, or simply sharing ideas with others.
Reading
For an inexpensive first step, start online. The Permaculture Association offers excellent theory and background, while Permaculture Magazine provides a wide range of articles and real-life examples.
Once you have a sense of the theory, applications, and areas that interest you most, you might want to invest in books. Green Shopping has a wide selection of permaculture titles.
Seeing real-world examples
If you’re near Brighton, you can explore our plot and orchards at Stanmer Park or visit a community orchard such as the one at Racehill Orchard.
Elsewhere, look for the nearest permaculture demonstration sites.
Listening and watching
If you prefer listening, Sustainable World Radio has excellent audio interviews. For video learners, check out Permaculture TV from the Permaculture Research Institute -— and don’t miss the videos we’ve shared below, including an archive of our Green Architecture Day event.
Hands-on
Sometimes the best way to learn is by doing. An Introduction to Permaculture course is a great way to get hands-on with guidance from an experienced designer and encouragement from like-minded people. On our own course, you’ll explore case studies such as Earthship Brighton and food-growing projects.
